Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services Give Troy Regional a 5-Star Rating for Cleanliness Based on Patient Surveys
Troy Regional is one of 374 hospitals in the country and one of only eight in Alabama given a 5-star rating for cleanliness in a recent evaluation. The rating was the result of the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) patient survey (HCAHPS), a national, standardized survey of hospital patients about their experience during a recent inpatient hospital stay. Patients completed the surveys between April 1, 2023, and March 31, 2024, and the data was updated on Jan. 8, 2025.
“We place cleanliness very high on our list of priorities because this is so important for patient care and satisfaction,” said Troy Regional CEO Rick Smith. “We are pleased to see that the hard work and dedication of our EVS team and our staff has paid off,” Smith said, explaining that Troy Regional partners with Forefront for environmental services.
For Troy Regional, this recognition follows the recent designation as a Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital by the Chartis Center for Rural Health, and the only one in the state to make the list. Leveraging publicly available data, the Chartis Rural Hospital Performance INDEX® is used nationwide by rural hospitals, health systems with rural affiliates, hospital associations and state offices of rural health to measure and monitor performance across a variety of areas impacting hospital operations and finance.
Additionally, the Troy Regional Emergency Department recently received a Women’s Choice Award, based on patient experience ratings, also from the HCAHPS and other objective sources. One of the areas that got an excellent rating was the cleanliness of the room and bathroom.
